Bengaluru: AI company Anthropic has announced a major expansion of its India operations with the launch of in-country inference for its Claude AI models through Amazon Bedrock, alongside new enterprise partnerships and investments aimed at accelerating AI adoption across regulated industries.

The move comes as India emerges as one of Claude’s largest markets, with a rapidly growing developer ecosystem and increasing demand from enterprises for locally hosted AI services. In the coming weeks, customers using Amazon Bedrock’s India endpoint will be able to process Claude requests entirely on servers located within the country.

The in-country inference capability is designed to address data residency and compliance requirements for sectors such as banking, insurance and government, enabling organisations to deploy AI applications while retaining control over sensitive data.

Ashok Vaswani

Welcoming the development, Ashok Vaswani, Managing Director & CEO of Kotak Bank, said, “We are glad to see partners like Anthropic and AWS bringing in-country inference to India. Access to trusted, frontier AI closer to home is a positive step for the ecosystem as we all explore how these technologies can responsibly serve customers.”

Commenting on the expansion, Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India, Anthropic, said, “Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country. India’s banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most. Adding in-country inference marks a significant step forward in what we are building here — a growing local team, strong performance in Indian languages, and partnerships that put this technology to work for India.”

Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia, added, “India is at an inflection point in its AI journey, and institutions from banks to government agencies are ready to harness frontier AI at scale. With Anthropic’s Claude now available for in-country inferencing through Amazon Bedrock, they can deploy it on the same trusted infrastructure they already run their most critical workloads on, unlocking new possibilities in citizen services and digital transformation.”

Anthropic said the announcement builds on the momentum generated since the opening of its Bengaluru office earlier this year, with its India team expanding rapidly to support enterprises, startups and digital-native companies deploying Claude across a range of business functions.

Several leading Indian enterprises have already adopted Claude for enterprise AI initiatives. Axis Bank is using the platform to enhance engineering productivity, while NPCI is building its agentic AI platform, AiNxt, using Claude. IndusInd Bank is developing an AI-powered enterprise knowledge platform, and Godrej Industries is deploying Claude across application development, business analytics and internal knowledge management.

India’s IT services companies are also scaling Claude deployments globally. TCS is equipping 50,000 associates with Claude and expanding AI skills through TCS iON, while Infosys is integrating Claude into Infosys Topaz™ and establishing a dedicated Anthropic Centre of Excellence. Cognizant, LTIMindtree and L&T Technology Services are also embedding Claude into enterprise and engineering workflows.

Among digital-native businesses, Swiggy has integrated Claude into its services through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling Instamart customers to browse and purchase more than 40,000 products using natural-language prompts. Zoho, Rocket, Atlan and Freshworks are also leveraging Claude across product development, engineering and enterprise applications.

Anthropic also announced the expansion of its partner ecosystem in India. Following the global launch of the Claude Partner Network in March 2026, India has emerged as one of the strongest-performing markets by registrations. The company is hosting its first Claude Certification for Partners in Bengaluru this week, with the goal of certifying 5,000 professionals across its partner network.

Beyond enterprise deployments, Anthropic highlighted collaborations in scientific research, education, agriculture and cybersecurity. Through its AI for Science programme, the company is supporting research at the Indian Institute of Science’s Evolutionary Venomics Lab and biotech startup PopVax. It is also working with Pratham and Digital Green to improve educational outcomes and agricultural advisory services using AI.

In cybersecurity, the Data Security Council of India is using Claude to power a testing sandbox for organisations across critical sectors, while open-source initiatives including MOSIP and OpenG2P are integrating Claude into their software development and security workflows.

Anthropic also said it is continuing to improve Claude’s capabilities in Indian languages as part of its commitments under the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, working with organisations such as Karya to evaluate and enhance model performance across regional languages and real-world use cases
