Mumbai: ZEE5 is set to strengthen its Malayalam content slate with the exclusive digital premiere of Bha Bha Ba, streaming from January 16. Directed by Dhananjay Shankar and produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies, the film is positioned as a high-energy action-comedy that combines mass entertainment with sharp social satire.
Headlined by Dileep, the multi-starrer also features a special appearance by Mohanlal, along with Vineeth Sreenivasan, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Baiju Santhosh, Balu Varghese and Sandy. Designed as an event-driven spectacle, Bha Bha Ba derives its title from Bhayam, Bhakthi, Bahumanam—fear, devotion and respect—three themes that form the ideological core of the narrative.
Set against the backdrop of a shocking incident that rattles the political and administrative establishment, the story unfolds when an ordinary man abducts the Chief Minister in broad daylight. What initially appears to be a criminal act gradually reveals itself as a calculated attempt to expose corruption, misuse of power and entrenched systemic failures. Through humour, action and satire, the film captures the contrasting reactions of politicians, law enforcement, the media and the public.
Talking about the film, director Dhananjay Shankar said, “Bha Bha Ba was conceived as an entertainer that speaks to the audience while keeping them thoroughly engaged. The ideas of fear, devotion, and respect govern our society in many visible and invisible ways, and the film uses humour and action to explore these themes without becoming heavy. Working with such a stellar cast allowed us to mount the story on a scale that feels both impactful and accessible. I’m excited for the film to reach a wider audience through its digital premiere on ZEE5.”
Lead actor Dileep added, “This film is special because it combines entertainment with a strong underlying thought. My character operates in a space where humour, intensity, and conviction coexist, and that made the role very exciting to play. Bha Bha Ba has the kind of mass energy that audiences enjoy together, and I’m happy that it will now be available for viewers across the country on ZEE5.”
Commenting on the digital premiere, Lloyd C Xavier, spokesperson for Malayalam content at ZEE5, said, “Bha Bha Ba is a perfect addition to ZEE5’s growing slate of strong Malayalam content. It brings together star power, entertainment, and a socially relevant narrative, making it an ideal film for OTT audiences. We are delighted to present this high-energy entertainer to viewers, giving them the opportunity to experience a mass spectacle from the comfort of their homes.”
With its mix of action, humour and commentary on contemporary social realities, Bha Bha Ba is expected to appeal to audiences seeking socially rooted stories presented on a larger-than-life canvas.
