Mumbai: BIG FM in partnership with the Adani Group, unveiled its groundbreaking initiative ‘Story of Suraj’, highlighting the transformative potential of solar energy. Conceptualized as a 360-degree campaign, the initiative spanned 39 cities, seamlessly integrating radio, digital, and on-ground activations to raise awareness, inspire action, and foster meaningful conversations on sustainability across the country.
The campaign launched with a nationwide content roadblock, introducing every BIG FM listener to Suraj Bhaiya’s story. Over 80 RJs across the network created 250+ content pieces, reaching 2.91 crore listeners on radio. The impact was amplified digitally with over 21 million impressions across BIG Live and RJ social media channels, sparking emotional engagement and conversations about the role of clean energy in everyday life.
In a pioneering move, BIG FM and Adani Group executed the world’s first dual-city solar-powered live radio broadcast from Delhi and Pune. Both studios were powered entirely by solar energy—without grid or diesel support—earning the campaign recognition in both the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records, and setting a new benchmark for sustainable broadcasting.
On-ground activations across Delhi, Pune, Modhera, Indore, and Lucknow further deepened engagement. Solar-powered studios, live music, and pledge walls turned awareness into tangible action, while the Solar Rooftop Studio Shift showcased inspiring stories of real beneficiaries of solar energy. Social media extended this engagement with practical tips, village stories, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, bringing the sustainability message closer to audiences.
Sharing his thoughts, Sunil Kumaran, CEO, BIG FM, said, “The ‘Story of Suraj’ campaign is a testament to how creativity can drive a meaningful change. At BIG FM, we’ve always championed stories that resonate and this collaboration with Adani Group allowed us to deliver the message of sustainability in powerful new ways. From creating the world’s first dual-city solar-powered broadcast to earning recognition in the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records, the campaign set new benchmarks in purpose-driven innovation. These milestones prove that when purpose meets innovation, the impact can extend far beyond the airwaves.”
Taking the message to the grassroots, BIG FM went live from Modhera Gram Panchayat – India’s first fully solar-powered village – celebrating its transition to renewable energy and giving listeners a real glimpse into a clean-energy future. Moving seamlessly from the airwaves to digital and on-ground engagement, the campaign grew into a movement that inspired participation, sparked conversations, and set a blueprint for future purpose-led initiatives.
