Brands compete to reward Tokyo Olympic medal winners

With the stellar performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games, India clinched seven medals, and with that, India finished 48th on the medal tally. The highest-ranking for India in four decades.  The Central government and state governments have announced cash prizes for the winners. The brands have also joined the bandwagon to honour the winners with cash prizes and other offers.

BYJU’S

BYJU’s announced a Rs 2 Crores cash reward for Neeraj Chopra and Rs 1 Crore each for other individual Olympic medal winners at Tokyo 2020 BYJU’S is an ardent supporter of sports in the country. Making further strides into encouraging players across sports disciplines, the company has announced a Rs 2 crores cash reward for Neeraj Chopra and Rs 1 crore each for Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Lovlina Borgohain, PV Sindhu, and Bajrang Punia.

“Sports has a critical role to play in nation-building, and it’s time that we celebrate our Olympic heroes, not just once in 4 years, but every single day. They deserve all the adoration they get, and after this historic achievement at Tokyo 2020, we are rewarding the players for their efforts, sacrifices and achievements. upGrad & Swades

upGrad, Asia’s higher edtech major, and the not-for-profit focused on rural India – Swades Foundation has announced 100 scholarships in the name of each Olympic medal winner – Neeraj Chopra, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajarang Punia & players of the medal-winning Indian Hockey Team.

The 100 scholarships will be broken into Gold, Silver & Bronze tiers. They will be given the meritocracy of the applying candidates focused on empowering the ambitious youth and working professionals of Bharat at the grassroots across the country who dares to dream big.

“upGrad and Swades are pleased to announce 100 scholarships per Olympic medal winner – for upgrading our working prof & for our ambitious youth in rural India -in the name of each of our Olympic medal winners,” said Ronnie Screwvala, Chairperson & Co-founder – upGrad and Co-Founder – Swades Foundation, on Sunday announcing the launch of the scholarship fund on Twitter.

Global Indian International School (GIIS)

Global Indian International School has announced a unique “GIIS Olympians Scholarship” for children of Indian sportspersons who have represented the country at the recently concluded Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

“India has done extremely well in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and our scholarships are a way of thanking the athletes and sportsmen who gave their hardwood and sweat for the country,” said Atul Temurnikar, Chairman of Global Schools Foundation, which runs GIIS. “A scholarship of this nature not only recognizes the Olympians but also encourages their children to receive a world-class education and to pursue sports or any other passions they may have.”

Under the GIIS Olympians Scholarship, children of the contingent who represented India in Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will receive free education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 at any of its campuses in India. The scholarship will include waiving off* of tuition fees and annual fees for the entire time they continue their schooling with GIIS.

Bitbns

In its bid to recognize and celebrate Olympic champions, Bitbns, the cryptocurrency exchange, has announced Bitcoin SIP awards for Indian winners at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The company aims to honour the Indian Olympic medalists wherein winners would be entitled to open cryptocurrency SIPs’ worth lakhs on the exchange. The SIP will start from 2lakh for gold, 1 lakh for silver, and 50k for bronze medalists. The company aims to honour Mirabai Chanu for bagging a silver medal in weightlifting in the 49 kg category and PV Sindhu, who won the bronze medal after defeating Bing Jiao of China, in badminton to become the 1st Indian woman with 2 individual Olympic medals.

Shree Cements

Shree Cements, one of India’s top cement manufacturers, celebrates India’s winners at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The company has announced to offer winners free cement to help them build their dream homes.

“India’s athletes are competing at the highest level of sporting prowess and doing us proud. As both an Indian and a sports enthusiast, I feel that it is important to give back a little something for all that they are doing,” said H. M. Bangur, Managing Director, Shree Cements Ltd.
