Mumbai: Nielsen has announced the launch of its newly designed weekly TV ranking reports, powered by Big Data + Panel metrics. The launch covers the first official week of the broadcast season, which began September 22, and introduces two brand-new rankings: Live Sports Events and Total Scheduled Programming.
In the inaugural Live Sports Events report, college football, MLB, NFL, Ryder Cup, and WNBA telecasts all secured spots in the top 25.
The updated reports will now include:
- Broadcast Programs & Network Averages
- Cable Programs & Network Averages
- Syndication Programs
- NEW: Sports Events
- NEW: Total Scheduled Programming
The refreshed rankers are designed to provide more streamlined and consistent reporting, reflecting shifting viewing behaviors. All program-level reports will now focus on total day viewing and include ratings and projections across demographics: Households, Persons 2+, Persons 18-49, and Persons 25-54. Select reports will also be used to update Nielsen’s Top 10 lists on its website.
Nielsen explained that the Live Sports Events ranking will track the top 25 live sports telecasts weekly across broadcast, cable, and live streaming, while Total Scheduled Programming will feature the top 250 live/scheduled telecasts of the week across broadcast, cable, live streaming, and syndication.
