Mumbai: COLORS has announced the launch of its latest fiction drama, ‘Seher Hone Ko Hai’, a stirring, socially rooted narrative that brings to life a mother’s battle to protect her daughter from the same oppressive fate she once endured. Premiering on December 2 at 10:00 pm, the show will air every Monday to Friday on COLORS and JioHotstar.
Anchored in the evocative backdrop of Lucknow, the show traces the journey of Kausar—played by Mahhi Vij—who was married off at a very young age. Determined that her daughter Seher must not inherit the same darkness, she fiercely protects her right to dream, learn, and build a career. The story follows Seher’s fight to pursue her goal of becoming a doctor, while her father Parvez (Vaquar Shaikh) plans her marriage into a powerful household headed by Osmaan (Deepak Qazir).
Caught in this conflict is Mahid, the influential family’s heir, played by Parth Samthaan, whose own troubled past and moral awakening become central to the narrative. The cast also includes Apurva Agnihotri as Dr. Farid, a man of science who stands in contrast to deep-rooted traditional norms.
Speaking about his return to television, Parth Samthaan shared, “Mahid is a beautifully conflicted soul, torn between the expectations of a revered family and the unresolved wounds of his childhood. His encounter with Seher becomes the turning point in his life, pushing him to confront the man he truly is, rather than the one he was shaped to be. This is definitely not your boy-next-door character — in fact, it’s the most challenging role I’ve ever done so far. Mahid is wounded, scared, and emotionally unstable, yet he lives by a strong sense of justice, helping whoever is in need and punishing the culprit in his own way. He believes Allah has sent him into this world with a purpose of protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that justice is served. Returning to television with a character, this layered feels incredibly special, and I look forward to the audience embracing him with the same love and support they’ve always shown me.”
Mahhi Vij expressed her emotional connection to the character, saying, “Coming back to fiction with Kausar feels like coming home, both as an actor and as a mother. Kausar’s journey moved me the moment I heard it. I’ve worn many hats over the years: a performer, a reality-show winner, a woman who has learned to turn setbacks into strength—and this role asks for every one of those truths. What I love most is the quiet, unstoppable courage with which Kausar fights to give her daughter the life she never had. As a mother, that sentiment is so primal to me: wanting better, wanting brighter, wanting freedom for your child even if you never had it yourself. This role is my tribute to mothers everywhere and their infinite capacity to love, to fight, and to reshape the futures of the children they raise.”
Rishita Kothari, who plays the titular character, added, “Playing Seher is an honour because she represents countless girls who dream with a silent fire. Her dream of becoming a doctor is a continuation of a dream Kausar never got to chase. Raised in a world where even wanting an education can be dangerous, Seher survives by staying gentle, observant, and deeply resilient, and what moved me most is how she learns to navigate life with both fear and hope. Transitioning from the digital world to this powerful television role has been overwhelming in the best way. Working with Mahhi ma’am is truly a blessing; every scene teaches me something new about this craft. I hope through this character I can inspire the courage to believe in your own light among girls.”
