New Delhi: A Delhi Court has directed the Delhi Police to investigate Times Now Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar in a defamation case filed by Arnab Goswami’s ARG Outlier Media Private Limited.
According to a report by LiveLaw, ACJM Siddhant Sihag of Patiala House Courts ordered that an investigation be carried out under Section 225 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The provision allows a Magistrate to defer issuing summons or warrants when an accused resides outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The Court noted that Kumar resides beyond its jurisdiction and stated, “Given the facts and circumstances, I deem it appropriate that an investigation be carried out in the instant matter u/s 202 Cr.P.C. / 225 BNSS. Copy of this order be sent to the concerned SHO for necessary action. Report be filed by the IO on or before NDOH.” The matter has been listed for the next hearing on February 26, 2026.
The case arises from a January 18, 2020 broadcast of Times Now’s Newshour at 9 PM, where Kumar allegedly made defamatory remarks against Goswami. ARG Outlier Media claims that her statements, coupled with an alleged distortion of the Mumbai Police chargesheet in the TRP scam case, were intended to malign Goswami’s reputation.
Advocate Ayush Jindal appeared for ARG Outlier Media.
