Delhi: In a major enforcement action to protect consumers and curb the circulation of counterfeit products, spurious skin care items allegedly imitating the popular personal care brand ‘JOY’ were seized in Delhi following court-ordered raids.
Three simultaneous court-appointed Local Commissions were executed across key markets in the capital, including two premises in Sadar Bazar and one in Dilshad Garden. The action was carried out pursuant to an ex-parte order passed by the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi in a trademark and copyright infringement suit filed by Joy Creators LLP.
Acting on the Court’s directions, the Local Commissioners conducted coordinated raids at the identified locations and recovered large quantities of allegedly infringing cosmetic products. The seized materials also included packaging, labels, and promotional content bearing deceptively similar branding to JOY. According to the findings, the products closely imitated the trade dress and overall appearance of JOY personal care products, a brand that has been trusted by Indian consumers for decades.
The Local Commissioners prepared detailed inventories and recorded photographic evidence of the seized goods. Despite resistance encountered at certain locations, the court-mandated process was completed successfully, and the counterfeit products were seized and sealed in accordance with legal procedures.
The matter is now listed for further proceedings before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court. The execution of the Local Commissions marks a significant step toward combating counterfeit cosmetic products in the market and safeguarding consumer interests, while reinforcing the importance of intellectual property protection in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.
