Mumbai: FITT, IIT Delhi hosted the official announcement of the WaveX Accelerator Programme, a flagship startup accelerator initiative under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), Government of India. The announcement was made during a WaveX Startup Mixer organised at FITT, IIT Delhi, alongside partners including T-Hub Hyderabad, IICT Mumbai, FTII Pune, SRFTI Kolkata and multiple Indian Institutes of Mass Communication (IIMCs).
The launch underscores WaveX’s focus on accelerating innovation across media, AVGC-XR, broadcasting, communication and emerging technologies through a nationwide incubation network spanning IITs, innovation hubs and leading incubators.
The event coincided with the launch of The Groundbreaker by entrepreneur Mr. Kanwal Rekhi and was attended by students, startups, investors and ecosystem leaders. Proceedings included a welcome address by Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, felicitations, opening remarks by Prof. Banerjee, Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Managing Director, FITT, and Mr. Rekhi, followed by Mr. Rekhi’s address on entrepreneurial leadership within the WaveX framework.
The programme featured WaveX Accelerator updates, a Q&A session, book signing and networking interactions, offering startups insights into incubation opportunities, access to IIT research labs, faculty mentorship, IP support and investor linkages enabled through the FITT partnership.

Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Managing Director, FITT, IIT Delhi, said, “Hosting this WaveX announcement at FITT underscores our MoU role in operationalising incubation centres, providing IIT research labs, faculty mentorship, IP commercialisation, and multi-IIT coordination for startups innovating in broadcasting, immersive tech, and digital content while prioritising protection of creative IP as a cornerstone for sustainable innovation in India’s media ecosystem.”
Following the recently signed MoU between FITT and WaveX, the collaboration brings together WaveX’s funding, policy support and national outreach with FITT’s operational execution, research and industry collaborations, lab access and ecosystem-building initiatives. The accelerator will support startups across animation, gaming, XR, AI-led content creation and digital platforms.
With its integrated incubation model and policy-backed support, the WaveX Accelerator positions itself as a key enabler of India’s rapidly growing media and entertainment technology ecosystem.
