Mumbai: Meta has expanded its AI-powered language capabilities across Instagram and Facebook, rolling out reel translation, dubbing and lip-syncing support for five additional Indian languages—Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi.
The update, which was first announced in November 2025, is now being made available to users globally, underscoring India’s growing strategic importance for Meta’s creator and AI roadmap. The rollout was detailed at the exclusive House of Instagram event held in Mumbai earlier today.
Meta AI translations deepen India focus
With the expanded language support, creators can now use Meta AI to translate reels into nine languages in total, including Hindi, English, Spanish and Portuguese. The feature allows creators to dub their videos while preserving their original voice tone and emotional nuance, ensuring the content continues to feel authentic.
Creators can also opt for AI-powered lip syncing, which aligns translated audio with mouth movements, making it appear as though the creator is naturally speaking the target language. Meta said the capability is designed to help Indian creators reach new regional and international audiences, while also enabling users to discover content from across India without language barriers.
New Indian fonts added to Edits
Alongside translations, Meta announced the introduction of new Indian fonts in Edits, its video editing app for creators. The update adds Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts, enabling text and captions in languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese. The feature will begin rolling out to Android users in the coming days.
Creators can access the fonts directly within the editing timeline by selecting “Text” and browsing the font list via the “Aa” icon. Devices already set to Indian scripts will automatically surface the relevant fonts, while others can filter fonts by language.
Part of a wider creator push
The announcements build on a flurry of creator-focused updates introduced over the past month. These include Meta AI-powered photo and video restyling in Instagram Stories, bulk caption editing, video reversing, expanded lip-sync effects, and access to over 400 additional sound effects within Edits.
With India emerging as one of its largest creator ecosystems, Meta’s latest updates reinforce its strategy of using AI to break language barriers, amplify reach, and deepen creator engagement across regional and global audiences.
