Chhattisgarh: Naresh Kaushal, Editor of Dainik Tribune and a senior journalist, has been conferred with the Silver Elephant Award, the highest national honour of the Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG), in recognition of his lifelong contribution to the Scout–Guide movement and youth development in India.
The award was presented by the Hon’ble Governor of Chhattisgarh, Shri Ramen Deka, during the inaugural ceremony of the First National Rover–Ranger Jamboree held in Balod. Shri Kaushal was recognised for his enduring commitment to character building among youth and for promoting the values of service, discipline and nation-building through both his scouting journey and journalism.
Kaushal’s association with the Scout–Guide movement spans over six decades. He began his journey in 1964 as a Scout at the Fourth National Jamboree of the Bharat Scouts and Guides in Allahabad—an experience that played a formative role in shaping his values of service, patriotism and discipline.
Congratulating him on the occasion, Dr Anil Jain, President, The Bharat Scouts and Guides, and Dr K. K. Khandelwal, Chief National Commissioner, The Bharat Scouts and Guides, lauded his exemplary contribution and extended their best wishes.
Following the felicitation, Shri Naresh Kaushal took the General Salute at the National Jamboree and jointly unfurled the Jamboree Flag along with Dr K. K. Khandelwal, marking a memorable moment in the event’s history.
During the Jamboree, Kaushal interacted with Rovers and Rangers from across the country, including participants from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh and other states and Union Territories. He described scouting as a powerful platform for leadership development, responsible citizenship and nation-building, urging young participants to remain conscious of their social responsibilities.
He also appreciated initiatives related to environmental protection, disaster management and first aid, calling them essential services in the current context. Shri Kaushal visited multiple camps and sub-camps and spent time living in a tented environment with nearly 15,000 Rovers and Rangers representing 54 States, Union Territories, Railway Zones, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan (NVS).
The Bharat Scouts and Guides said the honour not only acknowledges Naresh Kaushal’s outstanding contribution but is also expected to inspire young citizens across the country to uphold the ideals of service, discipline, leadership and patriotism.
