New Delhi: Nirmal Kumar Minda, Executive Chairman of Uno Minda Group, has taken over as President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). He succeeds Sanjay Nayar, Founder and Chairman, Sorin Investment Fund, who has completed his tenure at the Chamber. Amitabh Chaudhry, Managing Director & CEO of Axis Bank, has been appointed as the new Senior Vice-President of ASSOCHAM, subject to approval from the Reserve Bank of India.
Minda, a pioneer in the Indian auto component industry, has played a key role in shaping the country’s automotive supply chain over the past five decades. Under his leadership, Uno Minda has placed innovation at its core, driving localisation of components through in-house R&D and global technology collaborations. His people-first and customer-centric approach has earned him several accolades, including the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (Medium Category) and Business Today’s Best CEO Award (2019), along with the ‘Haryana Ratna Award’ for professional and social contributions.
“It is an honour for me to be elected as the President of ASSOCHAM, an institution with a history of 105 years of service to the Nation. During my Presidency, my ASSOCHAM colleagues and I will work to strengthen and support the work of ASSOCHAM. In addition to our existing areas of work, we will lay special emphasis on five growth areas – Make in India, Ease of doing business, MSME growth, Digital economy and Sustainability & environment,” Minda said.
“I look forward to working with all members and other stakeholders towards achieving the visionary goal of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat,” he added further.
Amitabh Chaudhry, newly appointed Senior Vice-President of the Chamber, said, “ASSOCHAM would continue to be an active partner of the government in the endeavour of nation building. We will play a pro-active role in supporting the industry and in bridging the industry-government connect by delivering actionable feedback to the government on macro and sectoral trends.”
Chaudhry brings with him 38 years of diverse leadership experience across sectors in India and abroad. As MD & CEO of Axis Bank, he has steered the institution towards industry-leading growth, profitability, and sustainability, with a strong focus on digital transformation, governance, and Bharat banking. Prior to Axis Bank, he served as MD & CEO of HDFC Life, where he built one of India’s most valuable life insurance franchises during his nine-year tenure starting in 2010.

Congratulating the new leadership, Sanjay Nayar, Immediate Past President, ASSOCHAM, said, “ASSOCHAM has long been a catalyst in shaping India’s economic journey, bridging industry and government, amplifying the voice of business and championing the aspirations of MSMEs across sectors. Its constructive policy advocacy and deep engagement with stakeholders have helped translate ideas into impact. I extend my best wishes to the new leadership for a dynamic and inspiring tenure. I am confident that under their stewardship, ASSOCHAM will further strengthen its legacy of empowering enterprise and driving India’s growth story forward.”
Manish Singhal, Secretary General, ASSOCHAM, extended a warm welcome to the new President and Senior Vice-President, saying, “Their leadership would be instrumental in charting India’s economic trajectory through collaborative efforts to further ease of doing business and support innovation and technology enhancement sustainably. The chamber would tirelessly work towards realising the avowed objective of a self-reliant and developed India.”
