Mumbai: Directed by Rahul Dholakia, starring Shah Rukh Khan in and as Raees and set in the 80s and 90s, Raees is a parallel government, an outlaw and also a Robin Hood figure; a vigilante who is a voice to the voiceless, the underdog and the daring crook. The movie premieres on Saturday, 9th December at 8PM on &Pictures. Raees is a criminal with a heart of gold, the man who gets teary-eyed before shooting his mentor, donates books to the local school, cooks for his wife and even helps women start their own businesses. But he is also the smart gangster who always outsmarts the cops with his witty plans. Rumoured to be based on a true story of a Gujarat based bootlegger, the movie also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Mahira Khan, Atul Kulkarni, Narendra Jha, Jaideep Ahlawat amongst others in pivotal roles.
The movie marks the first time when Nawazudding Siddiqui shares screen space with the superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his portrayal of an IPS officer with dry wit, humour, intelligence and an equal opposite to Raees is another highlight of the movie. The wordplay with dialogues like ‘Koi dhandachhotanahinhotaaurdhande se bada koi dharamnahinhota’, ‘Baniyekidimaagaur Miyabhaiki daring, donohaiiskepaas’, ‘Mohallabachatebachatesheharjaladiya’ and many more coupled with chartbusting music including ‘Zaalima’, ‘UdiUdi’ and ‘LailaMain Laila’ makes Raees a blockbuster family entertainer. The movie also boasts of jaw dropping high-octane action, thrilling cat-and-mouse chase, and a unique sneak peek into the world of smuggling, politics and much more.

The film captures the journey of Raees (Shah Rukh Khan) who, as a child, learns the tricks of the liquor smuggling business and later decides to branch out on his own once he grows up. When ACP Majmudar (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is posted in his area, he meets his equal and a dangerous cat-and-mouse chase begins. Intoxicated by success and power, Raees not only reaches unimaginable heights but is also drawn into dirty politics, earning him countless enemies. His final consignment turns out to be a betrayal by those closest to him.
