The sixth edition of Puratchiyalar Viruthugal is to be hosted on September 2, 2023 at the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai
Extraordinary students and exceptional teachers from government schools, selfless parents, trendsetting individuals, and NGOs working with children across Tamil Nadu will be honoured at the event, informed organisers.
The award categories include:
- Maanava Puratchiyalar Viruthugal: For students from government schools who have achieved against odds and set an example to others by not restricting themselves to academics.
- Aasiriyar Puratchiyalar Viruthugal: For teachers from government schools who have brought the best out of their students by identifying the skills and potential.
- Pettror Puratchiyalar Viruthugal: For parents who have provided sacrificial support to kids to unravel their potential and travelled with them to realise their dreams.
- Samugha Puratchiyalar Viruthugal: For individuals and NGOs working for their vision to transform society through the betterment of children and their education.
The awards are organised by ‘You are Loved’, a charitable trust dedicated to empowering communities through education, employment and enlightenment. Their primary focus lies in children and women empowerment, assisting them in recognising and unleashing their true potential, informed an official statement.

He added, “Our mission is to bring together socially responsible individuals from diverse fields, collectively making a positive impact on society. We operate among underprivileged women and students in both rural and urban settings.”

The Selection
The Tamil Nadu Head Master Association collaborates to solicit nominations from various districts. They forward nominations, and the jury panel consisting of eminent personalities conduct interviews to select and honour the most exceptional candidates.
The selection criteria do not revolve around their grades or academic performance; instead, on their scientific innovations, achievements in sports, arts, and literature, their leadership qualities, and their commitment to societal issues.
Mentorship
For all selected students, organisers facilitate connections with corporate mentors who are experts in their respective fields. These mentors guide students for a minimum of one year, offering exposure and steering them in the right direction.
