Mumbai: The Tata Group formally felicitated the Indian Women’s Cricket Team following their landmark triumph at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, marking one of the most significant celebrations of women’s sport in the country. At a ceremony held at Bombay House on 16 December 2025, Tata Motors announced a special gesture of appreciation under which every member of the World Cup–winning squad will be awarded a Tata Sierra, the company’s newly unveiled model positioned as an icon reimagined for a new era.
The event was attended by senior leaders from the Tata Group, including N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. Their presence underscored the Group’s commitment to celebrating excellence, championing Indian athletes and supporting the growth of sport across the country.
Reflecting on the significance of the team’s achievement, N. Chandrasekaran said the victory marks a generational milestone comparable to India’s historic 1983 World Cup win. He noted that while the earlier triumph had inspired countless dreams, the women’s team’s win on 2 November 2025 has created a new moment of national pride for a new generation. He praised the team for playing with joy, resilience and unwavering spirit, ensuring that every run and wicket was earned and never taken for granted. Their ability to make even towering opposition totals feel chaseable, he said, reflected a culture of excellence built over years of perseverance, experimentation, setbacks and success.
Chandrasekaran added that the impact of this victory extends far beyond the trophy. The team’s example, he said, will shape the aspirations of India’s youth by teaching them persistence, teamwork and the importance of dreaming big. Each player’s individual contribution to the campaign—often stepping up at different moments—demonstrated the collective strength behind the win. He emphasised that the women’s team has given the nation not only a moment of joy but a lasting memory and a standard of ambition for the next generation.
Announcing the gesture of appreciation, Chandrasekaran said he was delighted that Tata Motors will gift a Tata Sierra to the champion cricketers and their support staff in recognition of their efforts. Tata Motors also confirmed that each player will be free to choose the Sierra variant that best suits their preferences, making the recognition both meaningful and personalised.
The initiative reinforces Tata Motors’ longstanding association with national pride, achievement and aspiration. By honouring the team’s historic accomplishment, the company celebrates not just a sporting victory, but a cultural moment that will inspire generations to come.
