If you are a brand aiming to stay ahead of the curve, optimizing your website for voice search is crucial. The exponential rise of virtual assistants like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant are a testament to the fact that an increasing number of people are turning to voice search while scouting for information on the web. Contrary to traditional text-based search, voice search allows users to speak their queries aloud instead of typing them. Voice based searches are conversational in nature and involve longer phrases along with question-based keywords. Therefore it is important for brands to grasp the nuances in language in order to fine-tune SEO strategy in a way that prioritizes natural language and user intent.

Key Strategies To Master Voice Search Optimisation For Future SEO

User experience lies at the core of creating products and services that resonate with customers. Prioritisng UX by optimizing for voice search can help boost engagement significantly by enhancing site visibility in voice search results. Besides, a smooth and intuitive user experience fosters brand loyalty, reduces churn and drives business growth.

Optimizing For “Rank Zero Snippets” 

Whenever you enter a voice search query, the search engine displays one answer on the top of the page. Competing for this one place can seem like a daunting task, but if achieved successfully can help get your content in front of users via voice search.

Here are some tips to bear in mind when competing for position zero snippets :-

  • Craft information in a way that answers a question. Concise answers that give information on the questions asked by the user perform very well in featured snippets. Structuring your content in question format can be very effective in helping you secure a spot in the featured snippets section. For instance using “why, what, who, when, how’ etc. are used by people when they perform a voice search and integrating phrases like this into your content can help broaden its reach.
  • Make sure the content for featured snippets is within 40-50 words and is written in a language that is easy to comprehend.
  • Add bullet lists to your content to make them more skimmable.
  • Since voice search is conversational in nature, focus on long-tail keywords instead of short-tail ones.

Though this is not visible to people who are reading your content, it is an excellent way to optimize your website for voice search. This micro data that is embedded in your code serves as a guide for search engines to comprehend your content. Highlighting content from your site like hours of operation, contact information, upcoming events, etc. when people are looking for immediate-information through voice search. You can check if your structured data is good to go using the ‘Google Structured Data Testing Tool’.

Mobile -Friendly Test

In order to reach customers on the go, optimizing for mobile is critical, with fast loading time, being the most crucial aspect. Considering that voice searches are often performed on mobile devices, it is important to ensure that you apply all necessary technical optimisations like compressing images, browser caching and reducing time frame while executing JavaScripts. Consider using a CMS (Content Management System) to implement responsive design principles. If you are not using any tools. Just remember to stick to the basics like ensure sufficient breathing space to avoid making your content look text-heavy, break down content into short, readable paragraphs and to make it readable on compact screens, use bullet points, lists, etc.
