Sony SIX launches ‘Superheroes. They are among us’ campaign promoting 2016-17 NBA season

Mumbai: Sony SIX is all set to embark on the new season of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in India. The best teams from around the word will be fiercely competing with each other for the coveted Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy.

 Cleveland Cavaliers, the defending champions, will begin the first game of the season against New York Knicks. Some of the most popular teams for this season include Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunders, among others. The thrilling court action for 2016-17 NBA will telecast on Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD, commencing October 26, 2016.

To announce the beginning of the 2016-17 NBA, Sony SIX has launched a campaign on the theme of ‘Superheroes- They are among us’. The concept behind the campaign is to showcase the extraordinary skills of NBA players and are equated to superheroes when they unleash their intensely powerful game on the court.

This unique campaign aims to capture the imagination of a young audience who are looking for their athletic heroes in NBA. The campaign will have a complete 360 degree roll out across mass media.

The Campaign starts with a film that reminisces the Superheroes of NBA in different situations and showcase the sense of awe and amazement that NBA players bring to the court.

  • The Museum: In an expansive hall of a museum, tourists are seen clicking pictures of an object encased in a glass with great enthusiasm. It turns out to be an oversized basketball sneaker, a reminisce of the biggest players of NBA.
  • The Laboratory: Two scientists talk wondrously about LeBron James and how he defies all logic and physics when suspended in mid-air as he heads for a dunk.

The increasing demand for international sports content in India has led to the creation of non-traditional viewing slots. The sports cluster of SPN are pioneers in aggressively providing substantial content in ‘breakfast viewing’, a concept that is now trending in the industry.

Fans in India can now have the option to sample excellent sports content, even during non-primetime hours.  NBA games will telecast live between 0600 hours to 1000 hours IST daily.

 As a part of SPN’s efforts to build the fan-base of NBA in India, the network launched ‘Around the Hoop’ last year, a live wraparound show around the games, with content specifically customized for viewers in India. Around the Hoop returns this season with host Manas Singh, who will talk to NBA experts and basketball analysts about game stats, trivia, analysis and lots more every Sunday morning.
