V6 News and TV9 together enjoy 71% popularity in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: At the backdrop of a recent issue where BARC India has accused two Telugu News channels TV9 Telugu and V6 News of attempting to tamper its household samples, only to subsequently withdraw its action later-on due to its inability to prove it before the court of law, the recent independent survey carried out by Sunny Marketing Field Services (SMFS) on the popularity of Telugu News Channels in Hyderabad has revealed that both TV9 Telugu and V6 News command a lion share of 71% popularity in Telugu News space.

Ever since doubts are being expressed in the weekly ratings provided by BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) India, Market pundits are breaking their heads to know the realistic viewership of various television channels, particularly in two Telugu speaking States.

If one go by a recent independent survey carried out by Sunny Marketing Field Services (SMFS) on the popularity of Telugu News Channels in Hyderabad, V6 News proved to be most viewed news channel in Hyderabad. TV 9 Channel is behind V6 News. While these two Telugu News Channels have taken lions share in the popularity with 71 per cent, rest of the channels are to share the remaining space. Moreover, the gap between second choice and the next preference is far behind.

Before get into the survey finds it is important to note that Telugu News space is witnessing an abnormal fluctuation in viewership in the recent past that went to the level of observers raising their eyebrows on the sudden spurt in ratings of certain Telugu news channels. tvnews4u.com highlighted this in its article dated 29th November. (The BIG Story of Ratings Fluctuation in Telugu News Space)

In this scenario, the finds of SMFS survey gains significance. The findings of the survey clearly reflected a different picture of viewership of Telugu News Channels in Hyderabad.

The survey agency SMFS took a sample size of 5,000 covering 5 zones consisting of 150 localities in Hyderabad. Another aspect of the survey is 57 per cent of respondents hail from Telangana while the remaining 43 per cent belong to Andhra Pradesh, thus reflecting the mood of the both Telugu States.

The Media Survey reveals that V6 News is most popular as the entire samples from Telangana unequivocally preferred V6 News as their first choice. Even in percentage of accuracy among news channels, V6 News stood number one.

In all 36 per cent of respondents told that they prefer V6 News for knowing news happenings and developments. As many as 35 per cent of respondents preferred TV9 is their choice. Interesting factor in the survey report is that difference between second and third is much far away.

SMFS, which titled its survey as “Media Satisfaction Survey Report”, interviewed 56 per cent of male and the remaining female with its elaborate questionnaire. Similarly it has covered 34 per cent of its respondents between the age group of 15 and 25 while 46 per cent between the age group of 26 and 45 and the remaining 20 per cent belong to the age group of above 46.

At a time when the rating agency BARC India’s methodology and mechanism are challenged by one way other by TV industry, independent survey done by SMFS to ascertain the popularity of the Telugu News Channels in Hyderabad is contradicting with the findings of BARC data.

SMFS is based out of Hyderabad and can be reached in the following address:
