Over 4566 tables reserved per hour across India in 2019: Dineout Food Report

New Delhi: As per the recent report published by India’s most sought after restaurant solutions company – Dineout, Indians dined out 4.5 times in year 2019 as compared to 2018 through Dineout platform with almost 60% of them dining over the weekends.

In 2019, close to 4566 tables were reserved per hour across Indian cities including metro & non-metro cities and while the average bill value for dining out was Rs.1600, for ordering in it was Rs.300. The report is an indication of the growing dining out culture in India with a win-win situation for both diners & restaurateurs. While Indians were able to save a whopping amount of Rs.600 crore using the app, restaurants also earned 3X more during each dining.
India is a food-loving country with different states offering a myriad of cuisines. However, North Indian food emerged to be a clear winner with maximum Indians ordering it across India including South Indian states. With 37%, North Indian food cuisine was a hit among Indians, Chinese at 19% and Continental at 12%.

Commenting on the dining trends and expectations from 2020, Ankit Mehrotra, Co-founder & CEO – Dineout said, “We have been advocating about dining out culture in India since 2012 via our platform Dineout, and it’s great to finally see the positive changes in the dining habits of Indians. The report has thrown up some very interesting leanings like North Indian cuisine being the most preferred in South of India as well, while Indorites bucked the trend by dining out more on the weekday(Thursday) unlike the rest of the country which goes out on weekends with their friends and family. We are glad that our special services & products like Gourmet Passport and Dineout Pay acted as a catalyst in boosting the overall dining culture & helped the customers save more each time they went out to grab a bite of their favourite cuisine and am sure that 2020 will be bigger and better for the dining out industry.”

Looking into the crystal ball of the dining out industry, 2020 is expected to be no different. So as the saying goes, ‘If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world’, let this year be no different!
