Movies genre registered 49% rise in Ad Volumes: TAM AdEx-Television Advertising Report X Apr-Jul’20

The TAM AdEx-Television Advertising Report X for period Apr-Jul’20, it comprises of 2 sections that is Overall Television Advertising during Jun-Aug’20* & Deep diving into the details of Movies Channel Genres focusing on Hindi Movies, Bhojpuri Movies, Bengali Movies, Telugu Movies and Kannada Movies. We focus on the 1st section and 2nd section of the report where we highlight Hindi Movies, Telugu Movies and Kannada Movies.

Week on Week TV Ad Volumes

Comparing week 32 to week 23, Television Ad Volumes grew by 37%, week 30 recorded highest Ad Volumes among weeks ranging from 23 to 32 while Ad Volumes on TV for last 5 weeks reached above the average of week 23-32.

Ad Volumes for the month of Jul’20 grew by 15% over Jun’20

Top Sectors and Categories

Sector ‘Personal Care/Personal Hygiene’ topped with 22% share followed by F&B sector, the list of top 10 categories was dominated by FMCG sector and Top 50 categories holds 73% share of TV Ad Volumes.

Top Advertisers

During Jun-Jul’20, the Top 10 advertisers together contributed 50% share of TV Ad Volumes, HUL alone had more than 1/4th of the Ad Volume share followed by ‘Reckitt’ with 7% share.

Tally of advertisers and brands had minor fluctuations in last 10 weeks, 16% rise in avg. number of advertisers and brands during week 31-32 compared to week 23-30 and week 31 registered maximum number of advertisers and brands.

New* Advertisers and Brands each week

Tally of new Advertisers and Brands declined by 6% and 12% respectively in week 32 compared to week 31.

New* Advertisers and Brands on TV: Jun-Jul’20

Total 1150+ New Advertisers and 1850+ New brands seen in Jun-Jul’20 over Apr-May’20, Facebook topped the list of new Advertisers and its brand Whatsapp leads among new Brands.

Movies Channel Genre

Channel Genre: Movies

Among the Movies genres, Hindi Movies topped with 46% of Ad Volumes followed by Bhojpuri Movies, comparing week 32 to week 23, Movies genre registered 49% rise in Ad Volumes. A drop in Ad Volumes was observed in Week 31 & 32 compared to Week 30.

Ad Volumes of Hindi Movies Genre: Jun-Jul’20

Ad Volumes on Hindi Movies rose by 19% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20, Ad Volumes rejuvenated from week 28 after declining in week 27 and peaked in week 30. Comparing week 32 to week 23, Ad Volumes grew by 64% on Hindi Movies channels.

Top Categories and Advertisers during Jun-Jul’20: Hindi Movies

9 out of top 10 categories were from FMCG Sector contributing 40% to the Ad Volumes, Hindustan Unilever solely had more than 1/3rd of Ad Volumes in the genre during Jun-Jul’20 and Top 50 advertisers had 91% share of Ad Volumes on Hindi Movies channels

40+ Categories and 70+ Advertisers advertised only during Jun-Jul’20 on Hindi Movies channels, Personal Care/Personal Hygiene Sector had 3 exclusive categories on rank 1, 3 and 7.

Ad Volumes of Telugu Movies Genre: Jun-Jul’20

Ad Volumes on Telugu Movies grew by 8% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20, during week 23 to 32, Ad Volumes started increasing from week 24 and peaked in week 28. Comparing week 32 to week 23, Ad Volumes grew by 11% on Telugu Movies channels.

Number of categories, advertisers and brands grew by 7%, 27% and 13% respectively in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20.

4 out of Top 10 Categories were from F&B sector in Jun-Jul’20, the Top 10 Categories and Advertisers added 43% and 56% share of Ad Volumes respectively.

On Telugu Movies channels, 40+ Categories & 70+ Advertisers advertised exclusively in Jun-Jul’20

Ad Volumes of Kannada Movies Genre: Jun-Jul’20

Ad Volumes on Kannada Movies increased by 33% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20, compared to week 23, Ad Volumes of Kannada Movies genre grew by 59% in week 32.

Number of categories, advertisers and brands soared by 4%, 19% and 13% respectively in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20.

Top Categories and Advertisers during Jun-Jul’20: Kannada Movies

3 out of Top 10 Categories belonged to F&B sector contributing 10% share of Ad Volumes, 40% of Ad Volumes covered by Top 2 Advertisers viz. Hindustan Unilever and Reckitt Benckiser.
