On Thursday (18 February) Rajat Sharma, the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India TV who turned 64 has donated Rs 64 lakh towards flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.
The flood has destroyed 13 villages from Uttarakhand has made the situation worse. The catastrophe was triggered after a portion of the Nanda Devi glacier burst by its banks in Chamoli district on February 7, main to an avalanche and a deluge that ripped by the Alaknanda river system within the higher reaches of the ecologically fragile Himalayas. Hundreds of people went missing and over 50 bodies have been recovered.
“Many people asked me how will I celebrate my birthday this year. It has been said in the Shastras. People live for themselves, but those who live for philanthropy is the true meaning of life. Laborers in Uttarakhand need support the most. On my 64th birthday, I am making a humble contribution of Rs 64 lakh for them,” Rajat Sharma said in his tweet.
