Mumbai: The US tech giant Google will invest up to $1 billion in Bharti Airtel which will help in enhancing digital offerings of the telecom operator. The investment includes equity investments worth $700 million in Airtel at a price of Rs 734 ($9.77) per share and another investment up to $300 million towards is made with an objective to implement commercial agreements, including investments in scaling Airtel’s offerings.
The partnership will focus on enabling affordable access to smartphones across price ranges, and will continue to explore building on their existing partnerships to potentially co-create India-specific network domain use cases for 5G and other standards, and help accelerate the cloud ecosystem for businesses across India.
In 2020, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced a $10 billion Google for India Digitization Fund to help accelerate India’s digital economy.
