Mumbai: Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of Tata Sons, was killed in a car accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Sunday. According to Police the accident took place around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car.
The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. Two other persons travelling with him, including the car driver, were injured. All the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Gujarat.
According to the police, the car, a Mercedes, crashed into a divider near Charoti on a bridge at around 3.15 pm. There were four people in the vehicle, of which two, including Mistry, died on the spot.
The other deceased person has been identified as Jahangir Binshah Pandol. Those injured, identified as Anayta Pandole and Darius Pandole, have been taken to a hospital. Anayta Pandole was on wheels and it was a case of over speeding and the car crashed after she lost the control of the vehicle – added the Police sources.
Cyrus Mistry is survived by his wife Rohiqa Chagla and two sons Firoz Mistry and Zahan Mistry. The family is in abroad for a family function.
Mistry became the chairman of the Tata Sons after Ratan Tata stepped down in 2012. He joined the Board of Tata Sons in 2006 after his father Pallonji Mistry, a construction tycoon and chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji Group. He was ousted from the leadership in India’s most high-profile boardroom coup on October 24, 2016.
