Weekend Rewind with Gokul Krishnamoorthy: Do rats eat cannabis? #Boycott #Qatar2022 #PreventionOfCrueltyToAnimals #MahsaAmini

Let’s face it. Actor Richa Chadha has issued an apology and clarified on her ‘Galwan says hi’ response to a senior army official’s tweet. Her comment has since been removed after social media outrage and calls for #BoycottFukrey3. A brand she endorses made an attempt to clarify its stance – a little too smartly in the eyes of netizens – and there began calls for #BoycottMamaEarth. The brand’s comment has also been removed since. The actor’s larger point about war being avoidable, unfortunately came across as a mocking response to an army spokesperson. As for the brand, in the present day and age, it would have been better off staying away altogether. Sitting down with the actor-ambassador and planning a response coherently might help. Lesson: woke is weak when it comes to religion and nationalism today. Don’t become fodder for the frenzied.

#SaudiArabia #Argentina #Japan #Germany #Qatar2022

The shock. The joy. The beautiful game. The fans. The magic. Saudi Arabia did the unthinkable. So did Japan. What they also did with the wins was to awaken more global audiences to the game and the ongoing tournament in Qatar. And if Japan’s soccer team is winning matches, its fans are winning respect.

Among the most searched things back in India in recent times would be ‘Channel number of Sports18 on <DTH service>’. And ‘What channel is the FIFA world cup on?’ prior. That said, one wonders what would happen if India does play in the FIFA World Cup someday as a Byju’s spot said, when it comes to Prasar Bharti sharing the feed in national interest.

Rats Ate The Cannabis

The Indian police force is making headlines across the world. Why? Because they made headlines in the local dailies and channels earlier, claiming that rats ate hundreds of kilograms of seized cannabis. A BBC report mentions how police in the state of Bihar had in 2017 claimed that rats consumed thousands of litres of confiscated alcohol. The article also cites an instance in Argentina from 2018, when eight police officers were fired after they blamed mice for the disappearance of 500 kilograms of cannabis. Experts disagreed that mice would eat them, and in any case, there weren’t a lot of dead rats to back the claim. Now, should we expect any action in this Indian case of the missing cannabis? Should we expect even one media house to follow through on this story?

#PreventionOfCrueltyToAnimals

This hardworking campaign seems to have yielded results. Kudos to the man behind it who sent out this Tweet and all those he has thanked for amplifying it. The government has proposed 61 amendments including the stringent action against perpetrators of cruelty. Have your say before 7 December 2022. You can read the draft here.

Thanks @anantgoenka @ak_karnani @mayurask_ @RajNairitis @rajcheerfull for helping amplify the urgent need to table ammendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Thanks @PMOIndiahttps://t.co/TsITs4LDDD

The option to stay silent exists. The choice of amplifying voices from the #IranProtests also exists. We lose nothing by choosing the latter. If the world stays silent, they lose everything.

Here are a few of the many young people who have lost their lives in the past 2 months during the protests in #Iran. The Islamic Republic has killed more than 340 people, including +40 children, throughout the country. This must stop! #SS35 #IranRevoIution #MahsaAmini #مهسا_امینی pic.twitter.com/dAAgRz6sMC
