Mumbai: Gaurav Kalra, a seasoned voice in Indian sports journalism, has officially stepped down from his role as Vice President – Current Affairs at JioStar (formerly Viacom18), marking the end of a three-year tenure that encompassed some of the most significant sporting events in recent times.
Announcing his departure on LinkedIn, Kalra shared, “Three years. Three IPLs. Three WPLs. A Football World Cup. An Olympics. Several IPL & WPL auctions. Multiple bi-lateral cricket series. A bunch of special programming. Today, I finish my time at JioStar (once Viacom18!) with so many wonderful memories. It has been the ride of a lifetime to have worked with such an incredible group of sports broadcast professionals.”
He added, “Thank you Anil Jayaraj for your faith when you put the bricks and mortar of the team together and Siddharth Sharma for your leadership. And to all those colleagues I got a chance to work closely with (there are too many to name here!), I truly appreciate the opportunity. More than anything else, this has been a lot of fun, and I will always value the friendships I formed in my time here. Time for the next phase, and to borrow the phrase of a famous man — ‘Thank you for your attention to this matter.’”
Gaurav’s exit concludes a chapter where he contributed to shaping marquee programming for global and domestic sporting properties across broadcast and digital platforms.
Prior to JioStar, Kalra held notable roles at Reliance Foundation, Network18 Media & Investments Limited, ESPN, CNN-News18, Quintus/Wisden, Trans World International, and BITV, where he began his career in 1996 as an Assistant Producer.
With over two decades of multifaceted experience, Gaurav Kalra is widely respected for his work across Broadcast Journalism, Online Journalism, Content Strategy, Corporate Communications, and Digital Media, with a sharp editorial acumen in sports coverage.
His next move remains undisclosed, but his departure is being seen as a significant moment in the Indian sports media industry, with peers lauding his leadership, mentorship, and enduring contribution to the field.
