Mumbai: WhatsApp, the world’s leading messaging platform with over 3 billion users across 180 countries, has launched a new feature called Message Translations to make conversations seamless across languages.
The feature allows users to instantly translate incoming messages by simply long-pressing and tapping the ‘Translate’ option. Once a preferred language is downloaded, it is saved for future use, ensuring smooth communication across 1:1 chats, groups, and Channel updates.
On Android, users also have the option to enable automatic translations for entire chat threads, ensuring that all future messages in that conversation are instantly translated. Designed with user privacy at its core, translations occur directly on the device, ensuring that WhatsApp cannot access chat content.
The rollout begins this week in select languages, with Android users gaining access to six languages—English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic—while iPhone users will have access to over 19 languages at launch. More languages will be added in the coming months.
The new feature is aimed at breaking down language barriers, fostering deeper connections, and making communication more inclusive for WhatsApp users worldwide.
