Amar Chitra Katha launches Special Edition Graphic Novel ‘The Energy Superhero’ to mark 50 years of the Mumbai High discovery
Share Share ShareShare

Mumbai: Amar Chitra Katha, one of India’s most iconic and enduring comic book publishers, has partnered with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to release a special edition graphic novel titled The Energy Superhero, commemorating the golden jubilee of the historic Mumbai High oilfield discovery.

Positioned as a creative tribute to India’s unsung “energy soldiers,” the graphic novel aims to introduce young readers to the complex and fascinating world of India’s energy ecosystem in an engaging, accessible format.

Designed in Amar Chitra Katha’s trademark illustrative storytelling style, the comic transforms ONGC’s legacy into a narrative adventure. Through the perspective of four schoolchildren—Anne, Gaganjeet, Bhavani, and Arko—readers embark on an immersive journey beginning at the Subir Raha Oil Museum. From there, the pages unfold into a vivid exploration of seismic surveys, data interpretation, drilling technology, and production systems.

What is often perceived as technical and remote becomes visual, relatable, and exciting. The comic depicts seismic surveys as detective missions beneath the Earth’s crust and showcases rigs like the legendary Sagar Samrat with a sense of scale and awe befitting a cinematic universe.

A standout element of the story is its focus on the people behind India’s energy independence. Engineers, drillers, geologists, and offshore workers are brought to life as modern-day heroes—professionals whose perseverance, skill, and resilience power the nation.

The comic also integrates present-day themes of sustainability and environmental responsibility. Character Chutki guides young readers through ONGC’s green energy efforts and CSR initiatives, demonstrating that the future of energy includes innovation, empathy, and stewardship.

Ensuring broad accessibility, a free digital edition of The Energy Superhero is available on the Amar Chitra Katha mobile app, allowing children, educators, and enthusiasts across India to engage with the story regardless of location.

Described as “an honour to the unsung energy superheroes who are powering India,” the collaboration serves both as a tribute to decades of national achievement and as an invitation to the next generation to consider careers in science, engineering, energy, and exploration.

The launch marks a notable intersection of culture, industry, and education—using storytelling to commemorate history while sparking curiosity about the innovations that will shape India’s future energy landscape.
