Mumbai: Cleartrip has released new travel insights from its PeekABoo travel trends tracker, highlighting how Indian women are increasingly travelling with greater independence, confidence and control over their journeys.
Shared ahead of International Women’s Day, the data points to a notable shift in travel behaviour, with women planning trips earlier, adopting digital-first payment methods, customising itineraries and exploring destinations beyond traditional comfort zones.
According to PeekABoo insights, one of the most prominent trends is the rise of all-women international group travel, which has surged by nearly 36% year-on-year. At the same time, solo international women travellers are demonstrating stronger planning behaviour and higher spending confidence.
The data also indicates growing digital adoption among women travellers. There has been a 40% increase in UPI usage and a 17% rise in credit card transactions, suggesting greater comfort with digital payments and more direct control over travel expenses.
Women travellers are also investing more in comfort and preparedness while planning trips. The platform recorded a 34% increase in pre-booked meals, a 23.7% rise in seat selection, and a 33.2% growth in baggage add-ons, reflecting a more thoughtful and personalised approach to travel planning.
On the international front, destinations such as Dubai, Denpasar in Bali, London, Colombo, and Singapore are among the most preferred destinations. These locations offer a mix of short-haul accessibility, strong connectivity, safety perception and experience-driven itineraries.
The insights also reveal that the highest outbound departures among women travellers originate from major metros such as Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, indicating strong participation from urban professionals.
Domestically, travel interest is expanding beyond traditional leisure hubs. Cities including Ghaziabad (Hindon), Gorakhpur, and Darbhanga have recorded significant increases in bookings, suggesting that improved air connectivity is enabling women to travel more frequently across regions.
When it comes to accommodation, budget and mid-range hotels remain the most preferred segment among women travellers, reflecting a balanced approach between value, comfort and flexibility.
Overall, the insights suggest that Indian women are increasingly shaping their own travel narratives—embracing independence, leveraging digital tools and seeking experiences that go beyond conventional travel patterns.
