Mumbai: Films that released in April 2026 grossed Rs. 787 Crores at the domestic box office according to Ormax Media’s Box Office Report. Hindi films dominate the 2026 list (January-April) with four titles and occupy the top two spots among 2026’s highest-grossing films. The list also features three Telugu films, two International films, and one Malayalam film.
The cumulative box office for January-April releases in 2026 stands at Rs.4,219 Crores, which is 15% higher compared to the same period in 2025. Hindi film ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and Malayalam film ‘Vaazha 2’ emerged as the top-grossing films of the month
Malayalam cinema grossed over Rs.190 Crores in April 2026, doubling its share from 4% (Jan-Mar) to 8% (Jan-Apr). ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and ‘Vaazha 2’ were the major contributors in April, together accounting for 43% of the month’s total gross collections.
Michael Jackson’s biopic ‘Michael’ and the Tamil film ‘Love Insurance Kompany’ were the only other films that managed to cross the Rs. 50 Crore mark in April 2026.

Hindi cinema continues to dominate the Indian box office in 2026 with 50% share, followed by Telugu and Tamil. Malayalam cinema doubled its share from 4% till March to 8% till April. Hollywood also gained momentum, driven by the strong performances of ‘Project Hail Mary’ in March and ‘Michael’ in April.
