Mumbai: In a significant enforcement action against digital piracy, law enforcement authorities in Chhattisgarh have registered an FIR against M/s Citynet Infra Pvt. Ltd., Baikunthpur, District Koriya, following a complaint by JioStar concerning the unauthorized transmission of its television channels through IPTV infrastructure.
Pursuant to the complaint and evidence submitted, FIR No. 0173/2026 dated 30 May 2026 was registered against Rajiv Panjiyara, proprietor of M/s Citynet Infra Pvt. Ltd., under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Copyright Act, 1957, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The enforcement action has also resulted in the detention of individuals allegedly involved in the operation, with further investigation currently underway.
Following the registration of the FIR, a preliminary investigation was conducted under the supervision of police officials with the assistance of the Cyber Cell. Based on the findings of the investigation, police conducted raids on 31 May 2026 at multiple locations linked to the operation, including its control room and sales office in Baikunthpur, Chhattisgarh.
During the course of the raid, investigating authorities allegedly detected the unauthorized transmission of JioStar television channels through an IPTV server being operated from the premises. The FIR records allegations that copyrighted television channels and content were being unlawfully retransmitted through IPTV-based distribution systems without authorization, including through infrastructure utilizing IPTV applications and streaming devices. The investigation remains ongoing. Further legal action is expected based on the forensic examination of the seized devices and the evidence collected during the course of the investigation.
This development reflects continued coordination between rights holders and law enforcement agencies to address organized piracy networks and curb the unauthorized distribution of premium television and digital content.
