Mumbai: The cinema exhibition industry veteran was in his forties and had taken over as MD of Miraj Cinemas in 2025
Bhuvnesh Mendiratta, Managing Director of Miraj Cinemas, passed away following a sudden brain stroke. He was in his forties. The news has come as a shock to the retail, entertainment, and hospitality fraternity, which has lost a respected professional well before his time.
Over more than two decades in the industry, Mendiratta played a significant role in strengthening cinema operations and expanding multiplex culture across India. At Miraj Cinemas, he was instrumental in driving the company’s growth to over 235 screens, with a strong focus on premium experiences and expansion into tier-2 and tier-3 markets. Having served successfully as COO, he was elevated to Managing Director in 2025, representing a new generation of dynamic leaders in India’s cinema exhibition sector.
Mendiratta began his career as a trainee at Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and went on to hold leadership roles at Taj Hotels, IHG, Fun Cinemas, Cinemax India, PVR Limited, and eventually Miraj Cinemas. His journey reflected passion, perseverance, and a deep understanding of the entertainment and hospitality business.
He is survived by his family. The industry mourns the loss of a professional who gave much to the growth of cinema in India.
