Mumbai: Sagar Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has announced the next phase of its growth with the launch of its global studio business and an integrated intellectual property (IP)-led strategy aimed at building cinematic franchises and expanding into multiple entertainment formats for audiences worldwide.
The company said it is evolving beyond traditional film and television production to create original stories and entertainment properties that can be extended across films, premium content, gaming, music, consumer products, immersive experiences, theme parks and emerging media platforms.
The strategic shift positions intellectual property at the centre of SPE’s long-term growth plans as it seeks to develop globally scalable entertainment franchises rooted in Indian storytelling and cultural heritage.

Commenting on the announcement, Akash Sagar Chopra, Chief Executive Officer, Sagar Pictures Entertainment, said, “India is home to some of the world’s most timeless stories, many of which remain underexplored in cinema. These narratives are not only entertaining but also carry profound spiritual and cultural wisdom. At Sagar Pictures Entertainment, our vision is to preserve their authenticity while reimagining them through world-class cinematic storytelling for audiences across generations and geographies. This new chapter reflects our commitment to combining a seven-decade legacy with innovation, global collaborations, and future-ready entertainment experiences.”
He added, “Our first step in this journey is Shrimad Bhagavatam, a project that reflects the scale and ambition with which we want to approach storytelling. As we build this and future franchises, our focus is on creating stories that can grow beyond cinema into meaningful experiences across multiple platforms, while staying rooted in the authenticity and values that define India’s cultural heritage.”
Founded on the legacy of the Sagar banner, established in 1954 by filmmaker and producer Ramanand Sagar, Sagar Pictures Entertainment has built a strong presence in India’s film and television industry through its spiritual, historical and family-oriented productions. Under the leadership of Moti Sagar, Chairman and Director, the company has produced several iconic adaptations of Indian epics, including the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, reaching audiences across India and the global diaspora.
As part of its new strategy, the company is developing Shrimad Bhagavatam, a seven-part live-action feature film franchise based on the Bhagavata Mahapurana. Currently in production, the project is being positioned as a premium large-format cinematic experience and marks the company’s first step toward creating interconnected entertainment franchises with global appeal.
SPE said the franchise combines extensive textual research with contemporary filmmaking and is designed to extend beyond cinema into multiple consumer experiences, reinforcing its long-term vision of building enduring intellectual properties inspired by India’s timeless stories.
