Mumbai: The Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar, in collaboration with HistoryTV18, has launched ‘Bihar – The Land Of Art & Crafts’, a two-part television special showcasing the state’s rich artistic traditions, cultural heritage and the artisans preserving them across generations.
The series highlights Bihar as a living repository of traditional art forms, where craftsmanship continues to thrive through everyday practice. Across two episodes, viewers are taken through communities that have sustained centuries-old traditions in painting, embroidery, handwoven silk, terracotta, stone carving and grass craft while contributing to local livelihoods and cultural identity.
The first episode explores some of Bihar’s best-known art forms, including Madhubani (Mithila) painting, Sujni embroidery, the state’s historic stone carving tradition associated with Gaya, Nalanda and Patna, and terracotta craft, showcasing their cultural significance and enduring relevance.
The second episode focuses on Bhagalpuri (Tussar) silk, Sikki grass craft, Manjusha painting from Bhagalpur and Tikuli art, tracing how these traditional crafts have evolved while finding recognition in national and international markets.
The special also examines how Bihar’s craft traditions continue to generate livelihoods, promote women’s economic empowerment and preserve indigenous knowledge through successive generations.
Through the initiative, the Department of Tourism, Government of Bihar and HistoryTV18 seek to position Bihar as a destination known for its living heritage, artistic excellence and cultural tourism potential.
The two-part special ‘Bihar – The Land Of Art & Crafts’ premieres on HistoryTV18, with the first episode airing on Monday, July 20 at 8 PM and the second on Tuesday, July 21 at 9 PM.
