The TAM AdEx-Television Advertising Report-IX for period Apr-Jul’20, it comprises of 2 sections that is Overall Television Advertising during Jun-Jul’20 &Deep diving into the details of News Channel Genres focusing on Hindi News, Bengali News, Telugu News, Tamil News and Marathi News. We focus on the 2nd section of the report:

Channel Genre: News

Among News genres, Hindi News* topped with 32% share of Ad Volumes followed by Bengali News. Meager drop in Ad Volumes observed in Week 31 compared to Week 30, comparing week 31 to week 23, News genre registered 19% rise in Ad Volumes.

Hindi News

Avg. Ad Volumes/Day on Hindi News saw a marginal decline of 2% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20.

Tally of Advertisers and Brands saw rise in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20

Top Categories and Advertisers during Jun-Jul’20: Hindi News*

3 out of top 10 categories were from Services Sector contributing 8% to the Ad Volumes. Hand Sanitizers and Piccadily Agro Industries were the leading category and advertiser and top 50 advertisers had 57% share of Ad Volumes on Hindi News channels.

40+ Categories and 340+ Advertisers advertised only during Jun-Jul’20 on Hindi News* channels, services and F&B Sector had 2 exclusive categories each among the top 10.

Telugu News

Comparing week 31 to week 23, Ad Volumes grew by 26% on Telugu News channels

Ad Volumes of Telugu News Genre: Jun-Jul’20

Avg. Ad Volumes/Day on Telugu News grew by 16% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20. A significant rise in Ad Volumes from week 28 onwards with a small drop in Week 31, comparing week 31 to week 23, Ad Volumes grew by 26% on Telugu News channels.

Tally of Advertisers and Brands saw a rise in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20, number of Advertisers and Brands grew by 24% and 10% respectively.

Top Categories and Advertisers during Jun-Jul’20: Telugu News

4 out of Top 10 Categories belonged to FMCG sector contributing 10% share of Ad Volumes. Reckitt Benckiser with 8% share of Ad Volumes topped the list followed by Procter & Gamble and the top 10 advertisers on Telugu News channels had 28% share of Ad Volumes.

On Telugu News channels, 50+ Categories & 200+ Advertisers advertised exclusively in Jun-Jul’20. 3 exclusive categories with rank 7, 8 & 10 were from Services Sector.

 

Tamil News

Avg. Ad Volumes/Day on Tamil News grew by 2% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20

Ad Volumes of Tamil News Genre: Jun-Jul’20

Avg. Ad Volumes/Day on Tamil News grew by 2% in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20, a significant rise in ad volumes from week 28 was observed after a drop from week 24 to week 27. Comparing week 31 to week 23, ad volumes grew by 7% on Tamil News channels

No. of Categories, Advertisers and Brands: Jun-Jul’20

Tally of Advertisers saw rise in Jul’20 compared to Jun’20; Marginal drop in Categories and Brands and number of Advertisers grew by 5% whereas Brands declined by 7%.

Top Categories and Advertisers during Jun-Jul’20: Tamil News

Multiple Courses & Hindustan Unilever were the leading category and advertiser respectively and the Top 10 advertisers on Tamil News channels had 25% share of ad volumes.

Categories and Advertisers present in Jun-Jul’20 and not in Apr-May’20

On Tamil News channels, 40+ Categories & 170+ Advertisers advertised exclusively in Jun-Jul’20 and among Top 10 exclusive categories, 3 categories with rank 3 to 5 were from Services Sector.
