Mumbai: Industry veteran Anuj Gandhi is expected to take on a senior leadership role at Jio TV and Jio TV+, signaling Reliance Jio’s push to strengthen its digital entertainment strategy. While his exact mandate is yet to be confirmed, sources indicate Gandhi will play a pivotal role in shaping the platforms’ growth.
This development comes soon after the closure of Gandhi’s entrepreneurial venture, Streambox Media Pvt Ltd, which had launched DOR TV in late 2024 as India’s first subscription-driven smart television service. Positioned as a “product-as-a-service” model, DOR TV bundled a 4K QLED smart TV with access to OTT platforms, live TV, gaming, and news under a single monthly plan. Despite strong backers including Micromax’s Rahul Sharma and Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath, the service struggled to scale in a market dominated by free-to-air and low-cost cable/DTH offerings.
Streambox Media wound up operations in May 2025, discontinuing DOR TV and its app. Existing users were assured unlocked devices for use as regular smart TVs, but technical support, updates, and warranties were withdrawn.
Gandhi, who has held leadership roles across television broadcasting and media ventures, brings decades of expertise to Jio TV. His move is seen as a continuation of his drive to innovate in the converging TV and OTT space, despite the short-lived Streambox experiment.
Jio TV serves as a mobile app for live channels, while Jio TV+ integrates OTT platforms like Prime Video, Hotstar, and Zee5 with JioFiber and Jio AirFiber services through a single login. Gandhi’s appointment is expected to boost the platforms’ competitive edge in India’s fast-evolving streaming market.
