Bengaluru :The British Council held the UK Alumni Awards 2026, and Arjun R. Krishna, Co-Founder of WeMakeScholars, was chosen in the Business and Innovation category. The awards took place in Bengaluru, India, on March 12, 2026.
Notable guests included M. C. Sudhakar, Chandru Iyer, Alison Barrett, and Janaka Pushpanathan. The award honored UK university graduates who have made significant contributions to their fields through leadership, innovation, and making a difference in society.
Before starting WeMakeScholars, a fintech-enabled platform that helps Indian students get scholarships and education loans for higher education abroad, Arjun got his MSc from the University of Sheffield. Since it started, the platform has worked to make it easier for people to access global education opportunities by offering clear financial aid options.
The UK Alumni Awards honor the achievements of people who have graduated from UK universities around the world. Every year, finalists are chosen from more than 1,000 applicants in India in each of the four categories: Science and Sustainability, Culture, Creativity and Sport, Social Action, and Business and Innovation.
WeMakeScholars has helped more than 100,000 students get scholarships and education loans for studying abroad. They are funded under the Government of India’s Digital India initiative. The platform helped students get almost $700 million in education funding in just the past year, allowing them to study at top universities around the world.

Arjun R. Krishna, Co-Founder of WeMakeScholars Said –“My education in the UK had a big impact on how I think analytically and how I solve problems. Our goal with WeMakeScholars has always been to make global education available and affordable for students from all over India who come from different backgrounds. “The British Council’s recognition is both an honor and a reason to keep working to make education more accessible.”
WeMakeScholars is still closing the gap between students who want to study abroad and opportunities to do so by using technology and working with banks. This is helping to grow India’s international student ecosystem.
