India Today Art Awards 2020 to acknowledge and award the artists who have worked towards making art significant

New Delhi: India Today Art Awards,  is back with its 5th edition taking place on Tuesday, 4th February at The Oberoi, New Delhi. The Art awards will honor the best in the field of art, encourage & showcase the best of contemporary Indian Art and embrace all the aspects of the Indian Art Market.

Art is no longer a beautiful piece on the wall at home or office, it more about investing and business of art. In the past few years, there has been the emergence of a new set of artists who have been experimenting with a whole gamut of material. Keeping this dynamic art scenario in mind, India Today Group instituted the India Today Art Awards, which seek to encourage and showcase the best of Contemporary Indian Art.

To honor the bold is to stand by them in their rebellion or their expression, which is what the India Today Art Awards believes. For the fifth edition, the process has been democratized and the categories have been announced for artists, curators, galleries and collectors to send in their nominations based on the criteria listed. Based on the nominations sent in from across the spectrum, the jury will then decide on the deserving candidates who will be awarded On February 4th in New Delhi.

FASHION MEETS ART: The evening will end with a presentation celebrating bold ambition and sheer beauty—a curated collaboration between 10 designers and artists. Designers have created special fashionwear as an interpretation of art –; it will not only be an interplay of thread and fabric but also the forging of a unique narrative of fashion in art and art in fashion. The designer participating are Suneet Verma, Shivan & Narresh; Pava, Khanwala; Amit Aggarwal, Kira Uttam Ghosh, Pankaj & Nidhi, Samath Chauhan, Suket Dhir, Rahul Mishra, and Gaurav Gupta.

The award categories are –

  • Collector of the year
  • Solo Exhibition of the year
  • Retrospective Exhibition of the year
  • Performance Artist of the year
  • New Media Artist of the year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award in Art
  • Emerging Artist of the year
  • Best Artistic collaboration of the year
  • Artist of the year
  • Public art initiative

The jury for the art awards is Aroon Purie, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, India Today Group; Rekha Purie, Chairperson, Vasant Valley School; Amin Jaffer, Chief Curator of the Al Thani Collection; Priya Paul, Chairperson, Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels; Madhu Neotia, Initiator & Managing Trustee, Neotia Arts Trust; and Aman Nath, Writer

The past edition awardees included Himmat Shah, Rameshwar Broota, Anupam Poddar, Roobina Karode, Godrej India Culture Lab, amongst others.
