Mumbai: India Today Group has announced that its Executive Editor and senior Defence Correspondent, Manjeet Negi, has been conferred the prestigious CDS Commendation Medal by General Anil Chauhan in recognition of his contribution to defence journalism and national-interest reporting.
Negi is the only journalist in the country to receive the CDS Commendation Medal, marking a rare recognition for excellence in defence reporting and coverage of national security affairs.
Ahead of his retirement on May 30, General Anil Chauhan honoured officers and personnel from the Indian armed forces with the CDS Commendation Medal. In addition to defence personnel, a select group of individuals from various sectors were also recognised for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields, with Manjeet Negi among the awardees.
With a journalism career spanning more than 25 years, Negi has reported extensively on defence operations, strategic affairs, border tensions, and conflict zones, earning recognition for his on-ground reporting and coverage of critical national security developments.
Over the years, he has reported from challenging locations including the Siachen Glacier, deep-sea submarines, and border regions witnessing military tensions between India and China in Ladakh. He has also covered conflict situations, disasters, and strategic military operations across the country.
In 2025, Negi was also awarded the Chief of the Air Staff Commendation Medal for his contribution to defence journalism.
Expressing his gratitude on receiving the honour, Manjeet Negi said, “Today is a very important day in my life. In my 25-year journalistic career, I have received the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation Medal as a Defence Correspondent. I express my heartfelt gratitude to CDS Gen Anil Chauhan ji. I also owe the blessings of my parents, family, my organisation the India Today Group, and all my friends who supported me every step of the way.”
