Mumbai: In a significant enforcement action against cable piracy, the Haryana Police have registered an FIR against M/S Jai Durga Digital Network (JDDN), Ganaur, Sonipat, following a complaint from JioStar. The cable operator has infringed copyright and the broadcast reproduction rights by illegally retransmitting the signals of JioStar channels through its cable network/ control room.
Pursuant to the complaint and the evidence submitted, an FIR dated 6th July 2026 was registered under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Copyright Act, 1957, against the operator of JDDN. The action has also resulted in the detention of individuals allegedly involved in the operation.
Following the registration of the FIR, police officials conducted a raid at the control room and operational premises of JDDN in Bajana Kalan, Ganaur, Sonipat. During the operation, authorities seized optical transmission equipment allegedly used for the unauthorised retransmission of television signals. The cable operator and a technician associated with the network were detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The FIR records allegations that JDDN is a former JioStar licensee whose signal was deactivated in September 2025, continued the availability of JioStar channels through unauthorised means and constitutes deliberate piracy. It further alleges that the cable operator was sourcing feeds using consumer Direct-to-Home (DTH) set-top boxes, including feeds originating from Dish TV and DD Free Dish services, and retransmitting them commercially through its cable network. The unauthorised transmission is stated to have included channels such as Star Bharat, Star Utsav, Star Gold Select, Star Gold, Colors Cineplex, Colors Rishey, Star Sports 2, and Star Sports 3, among other channels from the JioStar portfolio.
Investigators also relied on electronic evidence capturing broadcaster fingerprints, DTH fingerprints, and the local JDDN network branding appearing simultaneously on the retransmitted channels, which, according to the FIR, established the unauthorised retransmission of JioStar’s broadcast signals. The FIR further states that the alleged piracy resulted in revenue loss to JioStar as well as the Government Exchequer.
This development demonstrates ongoing coordination between rights holders and law enforcement to address organised cable piracy networks and reduce unauthorised retransmission of premium television content.
