Kochi: Mathrubhumi Group has reported a 41% increase in views per user on its English digital news platform following a two-year collaboration with the Google News Initiative, Mediology Software and Tatvic to strengthen reader engagement through AI-driven personalisation and advanced analytics.
The initiative focused on transforming the publisher’s digital experience through a measurement-first approach powered by Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and an intelligent content recommendation framework. By moving beyond traditional static content browsing, the platform introduced a personalised content discovery experience designed to connect readers with stories aligned to their interests.
The behaviour-driven recommendation framework analyses user interests, reading patterns and engagement signals to dynamically surface relevant content categories and deliver real-time recommendations. As user preferences evolve, the system continuously adapts its recommendations, creating a more intuitive and engaging reading experience.
The transformation also shifted content discovery from conventional menu-based navigation to a guided, intent-driven journey, enabling readers to seamlessly discover relevant stories. By consistently presenting content tailored to individual interests, the platform improved content relevance, deepened engagement and strengthened reader retention.
In parallel, the implementation of Google Analytics 4 provided deeper audience insights and a more robust measurement framework, enabling editorial and product teams to make data-driven decisions and continuously optimise the user experience. The collaboration has also helped Mathrubhumi modernise its digital infrastructure while creating richer experiences for readers.

Commenting on the milestone, Mayura Shreyams Kumar, Director – Digital Operations, Mathrubhumi Group, said, “Our two-year partnership with the Google News Initiative has been instrumental in accelerating Mathrubhumi’s digital transformation. Beyond delivering strong audience growth, it has enabled us to modernise our digital infrastructure, transition from legacy systems, and build a more data-driven approach to content delivery. Most importantly, it has strengthened the relationship between our journalists and readers by creating a more personalised, meaningful, and engaging news experience.”
