Mumbai: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) issued a public clarification today, stating it has no intention of trademarking the term “Operation Sindoor,” a phrase that has come to symbolize Indian military bravery following a Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
In an official media statement, Reliance revealed that the trademark application for “Operation Sindoor” had been mistakenly filed by a junior employee at Jio Studios, a subsidiary of the conglomerate. The company emphasized that the filing was “inadvertent” and “unauthorized.” The application has since been formally withdrawn.
“Reliance Industries and all its stakeholders are incredibly proud of Operation Sindoor, which came about in response to a Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Operation Sindoor is the proud achievement of our brave Armed Forces in India’s uncompromising fight against the evil of terrorism,” the statement read.
The company reiterated its full support for the Indian Government and the Armed Forces, affirming its commitment to national values and its ‘India First’ philosophy.
The swift clarification appears aimed at addressing growing public sentiment around the perceived commercialization of a sensitive national military operation.
The company’s prompt withdrawal and clarification are likely to mitigate reputational risks while reinforcing its alignment with patriotic values.
