Mumbai: Royal Canin has launched a nationwide 360-degree brand campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of precise nutrition for puppies and kittens and encouraging pet parents to look beyond home-cooked meals for their pets’ nutritional needs.
The campaign is built around the proposition “Love is the #1 ingredient, but your puppies & kitten need 35+ nutrients more.” It seeks to highlight the nutritional gap that can exist in home-cooked diets while encouraging pet owners to make informed feeding decisions based on scientific research and veterinary guidance.
According to Royal Canin, research suggests that up to 95% of home-cooked meals are nutritionally incomplete for pets. The company notes that commonly prepared meals such as chicken and rice provide only around 10-15 essential nutrients in balanced amounts, whereas puppies and kittens require more than 35 essential nutrients in the right balance to support growth, immunity, digestion and cognitive development.
The campaign highlights the importance of nutrition during the early stages of a pet’s life. Royal Canin points out that nearly 80% of brain development occurs during the first four months, while puppies and kittens also undergo significant immune-system development during their first year.
Despite the nutritional requirements of growing pets, packaged pet food adoption in India remains below 15%, according to the company, indicating that a majority of puppies and kittens continue to be fed primarily home-cooked meals.
As part of the initiative, Royal Canin has partnered with veterinarians through its Paediatric Veterinary Care Program, encouraging new pet parents to schedule early veterinary consultations and seek expert guidance on nutrition, growth and preventive healthcare. The program also offers new pet owners access to a free or discounted veterinary visit.
The campaign further highlights nutrients including Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) for brain development, along with Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Lutein and Taurine, which support antioxidant functions and immune health during the early stages of life.
Commenting on the campaign, Satinder Singh, Managing Director, Royal Canin India, said, “Every pet owner wants to give their puppy or kitten the best possible care , and that journey begins with love. Through this campaign, we want to help pet owners understand that while home-cooked meals reflect care and affection, pets also need precise nutrition to support health needs throughout pets’ lifetime, especially at the start of life. Our goal is to provide quality life to pets through awareness, education and guidance from veterinary experts.”
Royal Canin said the campaign has been rolled out through a brand film across digital and social media platforms, supported by a digital outreach programme designed to facilitate veterinary visits through the Paediatric Veterinary Care Program.
With the campaign, Royal Canin is seeking to drive greater awareness around science-backed pet nutrition and encourage pet parents to complement the care and affection they provide with the precise nutritional support required by growing puppies and kittens.
