If you ignore the noise, the IPL is still solid entertainment. It still fills the latent demand for a sportainment property in a cricket-crazy nation that was discovered by Lalit Modi and co. ages ago. Personally, I am among those who prefers to watch it on TV. Irrespective of where one follows it, it is exciting sporting action with a lot of bells and whistles. Some of the whistles are witnessed purely on social media; a lot of the fan frenzy that resonates is authentic. And those are the things that are priceless.

It’s election season. Not taking anything away from Thapar for this great story. But we can expect more scandals, exposes, claims and counterclaims, communal tension, et al. All the way up to 2024.
