What the hell is happening? Whatever the cause, the effect is disturbing – to put it mildly. It’s a distraction we can do without. But something tells me we will have more such distractions across the country in the months ahead, unless there is political will to snuff them out. The good thing is that it is evident that a majority of people from the community do not support the cause of Khalistan and certainly the violent means deployed in the name of that cause. These are slurs on the reputation of the community of compassion and giving.

Now, this is a tricky one. Yes we need to be kind to animals and I do believe that when cared for (fed and treated) dogs are the most adoring and adorable companions. But who should take responsibility when a bunch of hounds chase two wheeler riders or worse still, as was witnessed in Hyderabad last week, maul a 5-year-old to death? We need better systems and systems that work to ensure a working human-(stray)canine equation.
