‘Z’ is set to host the grand finale of the Zee Short Film Contest 2026 on June 5 at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, marking the culmination of one of India’s largest multilingual filmmaking talent discovery initiatives. The event will bring together emerging filmmakers, industry veterans, creative leaders, and storytellers to celebrate the next generation of cinematic voices and the growing influence of regional storytelling across India.
Launched earlier this year as a pan-India platform for aspiring filmmakers, the Zee Short Film Contest 2026 received thousands of entries across multiple language markets. The initiative was conceptualised to discover and empower emerging storytellers by providing mentorship, visibility, and access to the combined scale of ‘Z’s television and digital ecosystem.
Over the past few months, the contest has evolved into a nationwide storytelling movement celebrating regional creativity, fresh perspectives, and creator-led innovation. The initiative has highlighted the diversity and depth of storytelling talent emerging from across India’s regional markets.
The contest has been guided by a distinguished jury panel comprising celebrated filmmakers and storytellers including Anurag Kashyap, Ravi Jadhav, Nag Ashwin, Srijit Mukherji, Samuthirakani, Hemanth Rao, and Lijo Jose Pellissery. As mentors and jury members, they have played a significant role in evaluating submissions and mentoring emerging creators throughout the contest journey.
Winners across eight language categories will be announced during the grand finale, with one winner from each language category receiving a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. In addition, the top 10 films from each category will be acquired by ‘Z’, streamed on ZEE5, and showcased across the network’s television channels, offering nationwide visibility to emerging filmmakers.
The evening will also feature a special roundtable discussion hosted by Rajeev Masand, bringing together jury members to discuss storytelling, filmmaking, and the evolving future of Indian entertainment.
Contest highlights and winning films will be showcased across Zee Zest, Zing, Zee TV, Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla, Zee Telugu, Zee Kannada, Zee Tamil, and Zee Keralam, further amplifying the reach of emerging creators through the network’s entertainment ecosystem.

Commenting on the initiative, Raghavendra Hunsur, Chief Content Officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, said, “At ‘Z’, we believe the future of Indian entertainment lies in discovering and nurturing authentic voices from across the country. Storytelling, for us, is not just content creation, it is a powerful expression of India’s evolving aspirations, identities and cultural depth. The Zee Short Film Contest was envisioned not merely as a competition, but as a transformative platform that connects emerging creators with meaningful industry opportunities. The overwhelming response to the initiative reflects the extraordinary depth of storytelling talent across India’s regional markets, and we are proud to provide these creators with visibility, mentorship and pathways into mainstream entertainment, enabling them to meaningfully shape the next chapter of Indian storytelling.”

Kartik Mahadev, Chief Marketing Officer, ZEE & ZEE5, added, “Today, storytelling is no longer confined to a single screen. Audiences move fluidly across television, OTT, digital, and social ecosystems, and creators deserve platforms that can amplify their vision across every touchpoint. With the Zee Short Film Contest and the omnichannel ecosystem at ZEE, emerging filmmakers and directors will get a chance to showcase their work at scale across linear television and streaming platform, giving their stories greater visibility, reach, and impact. Beyond creating opportunities for discovery, the initiative reflects our larger commitment as a network to nurturing creative ambition, championing original voices, and empowering the next generation of storytellers through the unmatched scale and strength of the ‘Z’ ecosystem.”

Alenkar Pathare, Business Head – Youth (Zee Zest, Zing, Teleplay), said, “As industry leaders, we at ‘Z’ maintain a sharp focus on nurturing the creative talent and building a future-ready ecosystem. For emerging creators, access to meaningful mentorship often becomes the bridge between raw potential and compelling storytelling. In many ways, this initiative enabled direct engagement with some of the country’s most accomplished filmmakers, who brought immense credibility and creative depth to the process. Their participation helped us shape a more rigorous and inspiring environment, one that challenged participants to think beyond formats and understand storytelling through the lens of craft, scale and audience impact. The success of the first edition reflects our commitment to build a more connected ecosystem where learning and opportunity shape the next generation of filmmakers for the industry at large.”
With the Zee Short Film Contest 2026 Grand Finale, ‘Z’ continues to strengthen its focus on creator-first innovation and culturally resonant storytelling, while building a future-forward platform for emerging filmmakers across India.
