Zee Keralam launches ‘Why Not?’ campaign to encourage rethinking gender norms

Mumbai: Zee Keralam has launched a thought-provoking Women’s Day campaign titled “Why Not?”, inviting audiences to pause and question everyday habits and perceptions that have quietly shaped how society views women. The initiative was rolled out ahead of International Women’s Day.

At the core of the campaign lies a simple yet powerful idea—that meaningful change does not always begin with large movements, but often with a small question.

Why Not?

Through a series of relatable moments, the campaign highlights situations where women step into spaces traditionally assumed to belong to men. Each moment reflects everyday experiences that audiences recognise, gently challenging invisible boundaries that society has long accepted without question.

While Kerala is widely known for its progressive outlook and strong representation of educated women, the campaign notes that certain cultural habits still subtly influence expectations around what women should or should not do.

The “Why Not?” campaign seeks to challenge these assumptions through simple but impactful questions:

Why not say a mother’s name first with pride.
Why not ensure equality at the dining table, from today.
Why not step onto a field and show the next generation what courage looks like.
Why not challenge the age old thought and actually believe a woman can do what a man can

Each creative in the campaign captures familiar everyday situations that prompt viewers to reconsider long-standing social norms and rethink perspectives that have often gone unquestioned.

Rooted in Kerala’s cultural and social context, the campaign celebrates the spirit of women who continue to lead families, influence communities and inspire future generations through quiet strength and confidence.

With “Why Not?”, Zee Keralam aims to remind audiences that empowerment does not always come through grand gestures. Often, it begins with a small shift in thinking—one that challenges an old habit and gradually transforms perspectives.

As the campaign suggests, sometimes the most powerful ideas begin with a simple question: Why Not?
