Yahoo is reportedly making cuts to its workforce across Southeast Asia, one of the world’s fastest growing regions for internet and mobile use.
According to a reports, the internet firm is laying off sales staff in Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia as part of a review of the company’s operations in the region.
The company did not confirm the departures, but did say that Yvonne Chang, VP, APAC advertising solutions and MD, India and Southeast Asia, would be leaving the company. Chang brings to an end more than 12 years with Yahoo in various roles.
The company told in a statement: “As we ensure that Yahoo is on a path of sustainable growth, we are continuously looking at areas of our business where we can achieve greater efficiency, collaboration and innovation by streamlining our operational models.”
“Southeast Asia is an important region for Yahoo, and we are committed to it. We will continue to deliver quality products and great experiences for our users and advertisers here,” the company stated.
The speculated restructure would follow similar moves by the company in the Middle East and Africa, where Yahoo is reportedly undergoing an “operational review”.
The news emerges just over a year after Yahoo introduced a new logo designed by chief executive Marissa Mayer as one measure to rejuvenate the company, which has been investing heavily in mobile and video products and pushing the value of native advertising to advertisers.
