How new media influenced the UP Elections?

New media today plays a prominent role in civic and political life.

Social network sites, web sites and text increasingly serve as both a medium for political information and a major public arena where citizens express and exchange their political ideas and mobilize others to vote, protest, and work on public issues.

New media are facilitating participatory politics–interactive, peer-based acts through which individuals and groups seek to exert both voice and influence on issues of public concern. It is also providing new opportunities for political voice and discussion, thus increasing the role of participatory politics in public life.

Youth & New Media: Early adopters of new media, and provide some empirical evidence to demonstrate the importance of participatory politics to their political life as well as to highlight some benefits as well as risks associated with this form of political engagement.

Considering the above, New Media has been the influential platform for politicians in UP Elections to build a strong bond with their voters and the same has also become a medium to cease any boundaries between the two. There are different media groups that have come up with decent and unbiased content and reach to the larger audience at the time of elections.

Indian Express Digital (inUth): The Indian Express Group has launched inUth.com (in beta), a video-first, multi-platform digital destination for Indian millennials. inUth.com is the go-to source for trending, sports, entertainment, digital culture and other millennial-focused content domains – with a video-first approach.

The stories are created and curated by a young team with an average age of 24. Each and every person in the editorial team is a convergent journalist and creates videos, memes, audio and Instagram/Snapchat stories.

The digital platform inUth has played a proactive role in the UP elections with all the above audience engagement features and turned out to be the one of the fastest growing digital platforms.

Recently, Indian Express Digital became India’s No.2 Digital Media Group with 75 million+ unique visitors.
