First Time in the History: Vijay TV crosses 1000 GRPs in Chennai

Chennai: For the first time in the history of Tamil GEC space, a Non Sun Network Channel has achieved the feat of crossing 1000 GRP mark in Chennai Market.

The historic viewership on Star India’s Tamil Entertainment Channel – Vijay TV was driven by the inaugural episodes of BiggBoss Tamil Season 2 that has witnessed the TVRs of the show towering to 12.8 points (against 7 TVR in BB Season 1) in Chennai under Urban 15+ TG. Bigg Boss has also been a blockbuster in Chennai during week 25, averaging 10.1 TVR through the week (Source BARC Panel, Bigg Boss, Sunday – Friday, Chennai 15+)

As per the BARC date for week 25, Vijay TV has clocked 1014 GRPs in Chennai under 15+ TG against the market leader Sun TV scoring 1325 GRPs. Zee Tamil at No. 3 delivered 579 GRPs.

In Across Tamil Nadu Bigg Boss Season 2 launch episode on Sunday, 17th June scored 9.7 TVR(TN Urban + Rural, 2+ Category), which is a growth of nearly 2X over Season 1 launch rating of 5.2 TVR. The remaining episodes of Bigg Boss in Week 25 scored 6.5 TVR. The overall average for Bigg Boss in the week is 7.0 TVR. This is a growth of 30% over Season 1.

In addition, Bigg Boss Season 2 has reached 3.7 Crore viewers across Tamil Nadu Week 1 itself. (Source: TN Urban + Rural, 2+) On the whole Vijay TV’s GRP has skyrocketed from 588 to 780 GRP’s.

Actor Kamal Haasan is that one celebrity host who swayed the Tamil audience with attitude, charm and aura. It’s a delightful news for the audience that he will be the host for this season too. Actor Ulaganaayagan, Kamal Haasan shares that, “I am more excited to collaborate with Star Vijay and Bigg boss for the second time. Apart from my film career, as a host for this huge show, I was able to connect with every Tamil television audience and  I have received lot of love from the audience. I always make sure that I act as a mediator for the audience to connect with the inmates, which I mention it often as makkalin pradhinidhi.”

On BiggBoss 2 launch, Mr. Krishnan Kutty, General Manager, Vijay Television says, “ We are so delightedthat we have touched great heights over the last few months. Star Vijay has grown phenomenally in terms of GRP’s and content. Now we are looking forward to even more heights in the coming days.”

The first season of the show Skyrocketed Vijay TV’s base from 350 GRP channel to 600 GRP channel, by giving back its second position in the chart. The show has been followed by 7 crore viewers in Tamil Nadu & +1.5 crore viewers across India, which suggests that every Tamilian across the globe has heard/watched/followed the show.

The show took the digital platform by storm by trending across India. The show also received an unbeatable reach by gaining 80 crore votes Peaking at 668 per second.
