Asianetnews.com drives 50% audience growth in 1st Qtr led by Tech innovations

AsianetNews.com, the Digital Venture of Asianet News Media & Entertainment Pvt Ltd covering 6 languages namely – Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English (through the recently launched mynation.com), has been the leader amongst Regional Media houses on Digital News consumption. While the primary focus continues to be content and innovation on content formats, the company has been relentlessly building its own Technology Platform in alliance with Technology giants such as Amazon, Google, Akamai, Brightcove amongst others.

Starting from the beta launch in March 2018, the new technology platform went live in June, with positive outcomes. This led to bolstering traffic growth and rationalize technology costs by ~30%. While most regional media houses work with WordPress, Joomla etc. or vie for expensive licensed CMS platforms, Asianetnews.com has always relied on custom built platforms serving their audience requirements.

“Asianetnews.com is aggressive capturing a dominant market share both traffic and revenue wise in the growing and still untapped market of vernacular languages. We will end the year with the user base of 60 million monthly active users and monthly page views of 1 billion plus. AI led nonlinear personalized Vertical video technology products in our pipeline will bring major changes in the digital user experience in terms of news and video content consumption across Vernacular India”, said Abhinav Khare, CEO of Asianet News Digital.

“We went one step ahead this time, and made it a product which, if we chose, can be licensed out to other small publishers as well making Technology a profit center than just a Revenue center. The recent audience growth has seen 50% growth in Direct and Search-related traffic reducing dependency on Referrals.”, says Anoop Mohan, Product Manager who helmed the Solution Architecture. Discussions with the technology team also indicate that Asianetnews.com could potentially be running the largest 100% serverless technology service in the country; a case-study exercise by a large Cloud Service provider is underway to demonstrate the same.
